irc.rizon.net #dnf - If you ever seek my help, it should be known that screenshots of your errors are ideal. I can't figure out what your problem is if all you have to say is "I get this random error when I open the client," and I sometimes get tired of playing 20 questions.

Accounts can only be made with legitimate Korean Social Security numbers (KSSN). To my knowledge, a KSSN generator won't work. Because of this, countries outside of Korea are not IP banned, so the game is fully playable without a proxy.

Unless you know what a button does, don't press it. Keep in mind, there is an error translation article that will be filled as people contribute screenshots of their errors.

Once you have a working account, the following steps will ease the installation process. If you insist on not following them, then you're welcome to troubleshoot your own errors.

  • Use Internet Explorer to start the game and use the skill calculators.
  • Disable all your restrictive anti-virus software or anything that might prevent the installation or download of files through Internet Explorer.
  • If you're using any, disable all your proxies until you know how to properly use them with this game.
  • Adjust Internet Explorer's security settings to allow ActiveX installations if they don't already.
  • I've never had problems or heard of problems with firewalls, but it may help to disable them for patching or installation purposes.
  • In Windows control panel, under Regional and Language options, change the "Language for Non Unicode programs" to Korean. It will require a computer restart and sometimes your XP/Vista install cd. I've heard it's possible to run the game without doing this. I don't bother testing it.
  • If all else fails, restart IE and try again.

With that out of the way, now it's time to install. There are several pieces of software required to login and start the game. Most of it is hacking prevention software or keylog preventative software. The game will not start without it, so click yes to everything. ActiveX installations in IE tend to have a yellow bar prompt on the top of the screen that you need to click to activate.

At some point, you will have Ahnlab Online Security installed. Be sure to have the blue and white circular icon running in the task bar before you start typing your account info. If you start typing too soon, an error message will pop up with an angry Mage and lots of Korean text. If this happens, restart IE and try again.

Once you're able to successfully enter your account info and login, the button should be replaced with a "GAME START" button. Pressing this will download the client if the game isn't installed on your computer already.

When you get to the actual patcher, you'll be able to see how fast you're downloading the client in kb/sec, as well as a gauge on how many files you've downloaded. If your download is going slower than 25kb/sec, then there are some solutions.

  • Close the patcher, wait 30 seconds and retry. It should resume on the last downloaded file.
  • Use a Korean proxy. At some point, there was a bandwidth limiter added to the patcher that caps connections outside of Korea to 30kb/sec. We generally have working proxies on IRC, but they're temporary and change all the time so I can't put them here. Follow these steps:
    • Log in without the proxy enabled. If you try to login with a proxy enabled of any type, it won't allow you. It won't even bring up an error.
    • Open Tools | Internet Options | Connections | LAN Settings, then check "Use a proxy server for your LAN," enter the IP and port, press OK until all the menus are closed.
    • Press Game Start.
  • There are times when the patcher server is overloaded and goes slow for everyone, typically after a big patch. Try again at a different time of day or figure out if the problem is on your end.

Once the game is complete, the installer is simple like most game installers, only in Korean. The left button should be "Next" and the right button should be "Cancel".

We play on Siroco server. It should be the third on the list. Our activeness is sporadic. There are other active English speaking players on Onrpg; I believe their server is Ozma, but if you want to play with them, you should verify this by visiting their forums. Servers are not numbered, so if you clicked a button with .01 or .34 on it, you clicked a channel, not a server.

EXTREME CAUTION: DO NOT PLAY THE GOBLIN MINI-GAME. IF YOU SEE A GOBLIN, NUMBERED HUTS AND A CLOCK, ESCAPE OUT IMMEDIATELY. If you don't know what you're doing, the goblin mini-game can lock your account forever. You'll get a pop-up every time you login asking if you want to play it. I just hit ESC. I don't even press any buttons. If you've locked your account, it's over. There is no possible way to recover it. Either make a new account or quit the game.

Good To Know

Stress resets at 5 pm EST / 2 pm PST / 6 am Korean every day.

With stress resets come a new radio file that, for whatever reason, cause extreme fps lag when it's downloaded. There's nothing specific that happens to warn you or tell you you're downloading the radio file. It just happens at some random time in the day while you're playing. Your options are to let it ride through and finish downloading, or if your FPS is unbearable, restart your client. The game will not stop lagging until it finishes downloading that radio file. From personal experience, it seems that a Korean proxy doesn't work on it like it will with the patcher.

As a preventative measure, it is possible to rename the .ogg file in the dnf/radio/ folder to a future date, but the game will regularly clear out the folder to make room for new files, so you have to remember to make a copy of it into a different folder as well as copying it back in before you start the client. Also, simply renaming a blank, 0 byte .txt file isn't going to work; it needs to be roughly the same size as previous radio files.

Maintenance day is Wednesday. If there are no content patches, it typically lasts from 5 EST to 9 EST.

There are no in-game methods to modify the screen resolution outside of changing it to windowed/full screen window.

It is not possible to open multiple DNF clients on the same system.

Enabling a proxy in Internet Explorer will cause problems with launching English DFO, regardless of the browser you used to launch it, so be sure to disable it if you intend on starting up DFO.

If you ever need to reinstall DNF, it is possible to just copy the DNF folder (even between operating systems), as long as you direct the installer to that folder when you have to decide on an install location.
